COLUMBIA, S.C. (Wednesday, November 6, 2024) – Solidly red South Carolina overwhelmingly delivered for the Republican Trump-Vance ticket by 58.17 percent to a withering 40.42 percent for Democrats Harris-Walz as Tuesday night polls closed.

Palmetto State Republican voters went on to increase the supermajority of both the State House and Senate ousting four powerful Senate Democrats in addition to the three renegade pro-abortion Republican women who lost in the June Primary election.

It was a good night for the South Carolina Citizens for Life Action PAC with 13 out of 16 PAC-endorsed pro-life candidates winning their Senate Seats, including seven newcomers. In the State House of Representatives 21 out of 22 PAC-endorsed pro-life candidates including six newcomers were elected.

Lisa Van Riper, President of South Carolina Citizens for Life said she is “heartened by the 2024 election results at both the national and state levels. Donald Trump, who as the 45th President implemented policies and made appointments that contributed toward a culture of life with the born and unborn, will return as chief executive.

“He will be joined by a Republican majority in the US Senate. In South Carolina the pro-life majorities grew in both the South Carolina House and Senate,” Mrs. Van Riper said. “South Carolina Citizens for Life appreciates all candidates who completed our post-Dobbs pro-life candidate survey. We also congratulate Drew McKissick, South Carolina Republican Chair, for his efforts in increasing these pro-life majorities.

“South Carolina Citizens for Life is committed to working with all those committed to advancing a culture of life that welcomes and protects the unborn and their moms,” she said. “The right to life is the first civil right.”

Representative John McCravy, R-Greenwood/Laurens, who is chairman of the S.C. House Family Caucus, credited pro-life voters for the resounding victory. “We have a big group for life in South Carolina,” he said. “We have elected Senators who have committed to supporting the cause of life. We have flipped several seats. We have taken several seats from Democrats in the Senate and that also raised our prospects for strengthening life in South Carolina.”

In 2023, the General Assembly passed the Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act after the Senate failed to pass the more strongly protective Human Life Protection Act.

South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick confirmed Wednesday that Republican voters won on the straight ticket by 21 points, and he confirmed that both the House and the Senate now have supermajority Republicans.

In a press conference Wednesday morning, McKissick said, “Yesterday, Republicans all across our state added an exclamation point to what we already knew, and that is that South Carolina is Trump country. We carried the state by 18 points for Donald Trump, helping Republican candidates win up and down the ballot. It was the biggest Republican wave in this state since Ronald Reagan.”

McKissick said the Party “aggressively worked” to defend incumbent Republicans as well as picking up one seat in the House and four seats in the Senate “giving Republicans a Senate supermajority for the first time in over 150 years.” He said Republicans now hold 34 out of 46 seats.

Representative McCravy said 75 percent of registered voters in his district voted. “Wow,” he said. “I mean that’s incredible. I think people are starting to realize — conservative Christians are starting to realize — that it’s important to get out and vote. We’re never going to have a perfect candidate. That’s never going to happen. You can’t wait for the Christian candidate that you think lines up exactly with the Bible. There’s not anybody out there like that. We’re going to have to vote for imperfect people who have the right values, and the Lord is using them to keep our country a Christian nation.”
