The number of abortions occurring in South Carolina increased by 12.5 percent in 2023 over 2022 according to preliminary data maintained by the State Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). What that means in terms of deaths is 909 more babies died by abortion in 2023 than in 2022, the preliminary DHEC data shows.
