Roe v. Wade Overturned
Three years Ago Today

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Tuesday, June 24, 2025) – Do you remember where you were three years ago this morning? I certainly remember exactly where I was when someone burst into the large, crowded room at the National Right to Life Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and shouted “Roe is overturned.”
As I write this, I still feel the tingling chills of excitement and even shock at hearing the announcement that the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision had overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
Cheers erupted in the room filled with pro-life leaders and grassroots supporters from across the United States. One couple collapsed into each other’s arms as we learned that that 5-1-3 decision by Justice Samuel Alito stated, “We therefore hold that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Roe and Casey must be overruled, and that authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives.”
Now, three years later, we are dealing with an entirely new pro-life environment as well as ramped up forces of evil determined to keep the abortion industry and the killing of unborn children in business for as long as possible.
Our work to save innocent lives is far from over. Here in South Carolina, we will continue this human rights movement to protect the unborn, support pregnant women, and safeguard the right to life of the of medically fragile members of our human family.
As a result of the Dobbs decision, the South Carolina Citizens for Life Board of Directors approved “Visioning A Way Forward from Dobbs to a Culture of Life” that will guide the Palmetto State’s pro-life movement going forward.
Our vision states in part:
The 2022 U.S. Supreme Court Dobbs decision empowered the people through their elected state and federal representatives to pursue the creation of a culture of life without the tyranny of federal judicial fiat. South Carolina Citizens for Life is committed to casting a vision that is based on moral clarity, medical and legal accuracy, and protection and compassionate care for the unborn and her mother.”
South Carolina Citizens for Life was incorporated in 1974 as the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee. NRLC President Carol Tobias said Tuesday, “The legacy of the Roe v Wade decision is the loss of nearly 65 million unborn children and the immeasurable harm it had done to women. Our work isn’t finished – protecting the unborn and empowering families continues in legislatures across America. We believe that we can build a future in which every child is welcome, every mother is supported,
and every life is protected.”
On this third anniversary of the historic Dobbs decision, let us remember the
generations of pro-life advocates who have given so much to protect the unborn and to build a culture of life.
Let us never forget the tragic loss of nearly 65 million unborn children whose lives were ended by the unjust tyranny of Roe.
Let us pray for the millions of families whose lives have been impacted by abortion.
As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to restoring the first civil right, the right to life. Without the right to life, there are no other rights.
